Barrow Island Marine Park is mostly there because of the turtles - very large numbers of green, hawksbill, flatback turtles (and occasional loggerhead turtles) nest on beaches alongside the marine park. All of these species of marine turtles are threatened. Western Australia's populations are among the largest remaining in the world, so it is important for us to look after them and ensure they keep returning to nest on our coast!
